Eyarth092 ps cropped 20% This is a model of a real station so the building had to be scratch built. A number of plans were obtained from the Clwyd Record Office and this helped to make the model as accurate a representation of the real thing as possible. The main shell of the building is made from a three-ply layer of plasticard, the outer most layer being Slaters embossed card. All windows and doors were also scratch built.

Eyarth210 60% Although a passing loop was installed at the station, Eyarth was never a token exchange point. So trains rarely if ever passed here in real life. In order to make operation of the layout a bit more interesting, trains run much more often that was really the case and regular pass each other in the loop. Here an oil train hauled by a Class 56 waits in the loop as a Class 24 hauled cement train passes through. This picture was taken before the backscene was fitted. Refer to later photographs to see what a difference the backscene makes.

Eyarth212 sharpened 50% A cement train enters the layout from under the bridge that carried the road to Ffynogion Farm. This bridge forms a convenient scenic break but it really did exist, although it was a bit further away from the station than I was able to portray.

Eyarth231 sharpened 50% A short passenger train leaves Eyarth, heading for Ruthin. It is hauled by Class 24 number 24 023, which really did haul passenger trains on the North Wales Coast line, not far from Eyarth. The signals are built from Model Signal Engineering parts and are operational. At exhibitions, a signalman sits at the front of the layout, changing the signals and the points for the loop, controlling the movement of trains.

P1180035 This lodge is also based on an actual structure that still exists. No plans of this building were available though, I drew up my own plans, based primarily on a number of photographs taken during a site visit. Again, the backscene comes into good effect here.
